When it comes to photographing children (notice how I didn’t say shooting kids!), your best bet is to shoot with a flattering focal length and you can never go wrong with a 50mm prime (fixed focal length) lens. Now, with … Continue reading

Giving Back

Aside

http://www.indiegogo.com/hopeforpaul?a=811258

A couple of years ago I saw this segment on Good Morning America about a college student in debt who had started a blog to raise money to pay off her creditors. The site became viral and in the end people from all of the world contributed to this girl’s cause by making $1 donations. Within a few weeks she was wiped clean of thousands in debt. When you think about it, it really is insane. So many people making such a small hand-out gave someone a clean slate, for no other reason really other than it was quirky and catchy.

I thought about that girl the other day when I got a message from my friend and fellow photographer, Mark Susan. He had put together this awesome campaign to raise funding for another colleague, Paul Sebring. You can click on the link below to get all the details and hear more about Paul’s selfless acts to help others.
He gave up a lucrative career to use another skill set that would eventually save lives. In return he lost most of what he had.

The bottom line is that in numbers, we can make a difference. If you can spend $5 a day on Starbucks then why not contribute that same amount or even a little more to a better cause? In my faith we call it a mitzvah; a duty to fulfill an act of human kindness at least once a day no matter how big or small. Please click on the link below. If we can bail some college tart out of credit card debt, then I’m positive that together we can give Paul hope .

Casting Call for Expecting Moms!

I was contacted a few days ago by a casting company in L.A. looking for expecting couples in the Phoenix area who are interested on being on a reality show. The show evolves around “Pregzilla” moms who will be filmed for episodes to be aired on television and will receive compensation for their participation. So if you think fit the bill of an expecting b@#%* mom, or know anyone who may be interested please contact me asap!

Social Media?

I was looking for some photo layout ideas yesterday for a new public art installation I have coming up. And, I came to a hard realization that I have been super lazy about keeping up with the many social media platforms. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s that I don’t have TIME! I post about 10% of the actual work I do on my blog- maybe the same on Facebook. I don’t know how people find the time to keep up with the demand of updating their posts, their blogs, their tweets on a daily basis. I joked here on my blog back during the holidays about neglecting my poor family because I was so busy. I’ve had to migrate out of my home office that I thoughtfully refer to as “the hole” to try and work on my laptop in the family room or else I’d be in there all day and the baby would have to potty train herself. Even as I sit here and type, my 14 year old is staring at me from across the kitchen counter pouring cheerios and milk in a giant cup to sneak upstairs because he says “you don’t even make enough dinner for me anymore!”.

Starting today I will be more diligent about posting pertinent content. That goes for any helpful insight I can offer to my fellow colleagues whether you are a pro photographer or hobbyist. Everyday is a new learning experience in photography as the art is continually evolving. So if you have any questions, concerns, or anything at all you’d like to share I would love to hear it (unless you want to tell me I suck, then please keep that to yourself because I don’t take rejection very well) :o)

Feel free to share your questions or comments on my Facebook page that I will try to check daily Facebook.com/BaramPhotography. And while I’m trying to catch up to months of social media and bloggie disregard I’d like to make a special shout out to Dave King from¬†Derbyshire, England…

I have not forgotten you, Dave! Eventually I will have time to send you a nice comprehensive email!

Terri + Joe Maternity

Terri and Joe are expecting their second son arriving already next week (unless he decides to debut on his own earlier)! He joins their little boy, Asher, 2. Terri has these big blue sparkling eyes as you can see in the photos and is so full of personality. She was a pageant girl growing up so being shy showing that beautiful, bare belly in the streets of downtown Phoenix doesn’t scare her one bit!

I hope the delivery will be smooth and quick next week and I wish them the best of luck and lots of prayers. Can’t wait to meet their new little one soon!
